This year, the “secret” 48th botanical is Myristicae arillus, the seed covering of nutmeg.

To create Distiller’s Cut, Myristicae arillus is added to a macerate containing the 47 ingredients.

The botanicals are then distilled again in a second extraction procedure, left to mature for three months in earthenware and finally combined with local spring water.

Each year, Monkey Gin produces a one-of-a-kind, limited-edition Distiller’s Cut that sets the hearts of bartenders and gin enthusiasts to racing.

It represents our ongoing effort to test the limits of what’s possible in distilling botanical ingredients into an unforgettable sensory experience.

For the 2021 Distiller’s Cut, Monkey 47 went with a new and secret element.

The 48th botanical, or the “species rara” as Monkey fondly calls it, is Scarlet Monarda.

The herb, also known as bee balm or Oswego tea, comes from the lower parts of the Swabian Jura mountains.
