Bladnoch Single Cask 01 is the first in an annual five-part series of single cask bottlings hand-selected by Nick Savage.
Cask 01 is a UK online exclusive and all 295 bottles were distilled in January 2008 and matured in an ex-red wine hogshead. Bottled at cask strength and non-chill filtered, the expression shows notes of red berries with floral honey, sweet oak and dark chocolate. The other four Single Cask bottlings for 2020 will be released in select markets worldwide.
Scotland’s most southerly distillery has a chequered past, but a bright future. Purchased by Australian David Prior in 2015, this Lowland distillery restarted distillation in 2017 and is currently releasing limited edition whiskies using old casks filled before Bladnoch fell silent.
Bladnoch is the southernmost distillery in Scotland. Bladnoch started in 1817 as a home distillery, and in 1878, on the banks of the river Bladnoch there emerged an ‘industrial’ distillery of single malt whisky. It has a rich history of closures, changes of owners and renovations.With new standard and special bottlings, he wants to give Bladnoch the status that the distillery once had, that of ‘Queen of the Lowlands’.
